Whether tackling human or animal forms, Hungarian designer Paul Vincze's signature style is all sinuous bodies and taut muscles. Born in 1907, Vincze moved to London in the 1930s to escape the anti-Jewish sentiment in his home country; in the following decades he became renowned for his sculptural designs that give a specific dimensionality to the medallions and coins in which he typically worked. Upon retiring in the earlier 1990s, he gave British manufacturers Alabaster & Wilson license to continue producing his iconic and collectible medallions from his original dies, where they continued to produce them until their 2018 closure.
Very good vintage condition with wear in line with previous use. Reverse of medallion has been previously solder-filled to obscure an old engraving.
