While the dragon appears in nearly all Eastern and Indo-European mythology, this lovingly detailed charmer is none other than y Ddraig Goch, the Welsh Dragon. While the recognizable beast didn't come to grace the royal heraldry until 1800, the dragon's association with warriors and leaders of the region goes back as early as oral traditions estimated to be from the 5th and 6th centuries CE, and cemented in writings such as the Mabinogion tale Lludd and Llefelys from the Middle Ages.
