Good grief we're in love with this one: opals like magical swirling galaxies; crisp, fluttering old diamonds; warm old gold - this ring has it all. While opals had been known and admired since around 4000 BCE and written about effusively through the Roman empire, it wasn't until the best quality stones were found in Australia in the 1860s that they truly began to boom in popularity. Queen Victorian was a known lover of opal, and this late Victorian ring would have been as coveted when it was new as it is now.
Very good antique condition, though the shank is out of round from a past resizing. Reasonable wear to the stones and gold commensurate with age.
Details:
• 14k yellow gold, stamped and tested
• Approximately size 4 1/8 (slightly out of round), can be resized within one size
• 3 opal cabochons approximately 3.8mm each, 4 early old European cut diamonds approximately 1.8mm each
• Face of ring is 4.7mm wide, 15.4mm across, with a 3.9mm rise; back of band measures 2mm wide and 1mm thick
• 2.1g
