Sentimental Antique Chased Locket
Sentimental Antique Chased Locket
Lockets have been around in some form or another for hundreds of years. They emerged from jewels that might be more accurately described as vessels - meant to hold perfumes or tinctures or herbs. The locket as a holder of keepsakes - portraits (photographic or earlier), hair, and the like - rose in popularity in the 19th century and has been particularly popular during wartimes ever since, as a way to hold close to you those who are physically far.
This double-sided locket features a heavily chased frame, with a pnoto on eacn side aepicting a baby ana a man. whle these pnotos coula easily be removed for your own, we can't guarantee that won't result in a haunting - and you could easily layer photos over top, just in case.
Good antique condition, with wear to glass. c.1900.
