The recognizable three-band rolling ring may often draw to mind Cartier's wildly popular Trinity Ring, but the style predates their 1924 "invention," and dates back to 19th century Russia. The three shades of gold (yellow, rose, and white - or silver, before the early 20th century introduction of white gold) and the interlocked bands were meant to represent the Holy Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost in Orthodox Christianity, making this band most common as a wedding band in 1800s Russia. Today, they continue to be widely loved for their comfort (their construction allows some give around their sizing, making them an excellent choice for finger fluctuations), for their tactile playfulness, and for their easy connection to the motif of celebrating past, present, and future.
