Wide Antique Flush Rose Cut Band
Wide Antique Flush Rose Cut Band
For well over a hundred years, flush (or burnished) settings have been loved for much the same reasons we gravitate to them today: by sinking a stone directly into the band and smoothing the gold setting over the girdle, you get the ultimate in comfort and wearability, without having to worry about catching your ring or diamond on anything.
This particular stunner sits even lower on the finger for its use of a rose cut diamond rather than a full cut. The rose cut diamond was developed in the 16th century and is recognizable by its flat (though often faceted) bottom and domed crown (top) with triangular facet pattern. A romantic cut designed for natural light and candlelight, the rose cut was most popular in Georgian jewelry, often with a closed, foiled back to help reflect the light. As most of a diamond's coveted optical properties - the white light return called brilliance and the rainbow dispersion called fire - come from the way light bounces back from a cut stone's pavilion (the cone-shaped bottom half), rose cuts have a distinctly subtle appearance by contrast. The overall effect of the rose cut in a smooth, flush setting is effortlessly chic and understated.
Very good antique condition with wear in line with previous use.
